My First Journey to Rara

I had seen pictures of Rara Lake many times, but I never imagined what the journey there would feel like. The road into Jumla was long and rough, with quiet hills, small villages, and landscapes that seemed untouched by the busy world. By the time we reached the homestay, I was tired, but also excited that I had finally made it this far. The next part of the journey felt even more special. As we made our way toward Rara, the scenery slowly changed—pine forests, rocky trails, distant mountains, and wide open skies. Then, suddenly, the lake appeared between the hills. The blue water was so calm that for a moment nobody in our group said anything. We just stood there looking at it. What I loved most was how peaceful everything felt. There were no crowds, no traffic, and very little noise—just the wind through the trees and the mountains around the lake. Sitting by Rara that afternoon, I felt like I had discovered a part of Nepal that many people still haven't seen. It was my first time visiting Jumla and Rara, but I left with the feeling that this was not simply a trip. The long journey, the kind people, the remote villages, and that first unforgettable view of Rara all became part of a memory I know I’ll carry for a long time.

The Morning We Chased the Sunrise

I woke up before sunrise because the host told me the mountains looked their best in the early morning. I was still half asleep when I stepped outside with a cup of tea, but the cold air quickly woke me up. The village was completely quiet, with only a few lights glowing from nearby houses. We walked a short distance to a viewpoint above Ghandruk. At first, the mountains were just dark shapes in the distance. Then the first light touched the peaks, slowly turning them golden. Nobody spoke for a while. We just stood there watching, and somehow the cold didn't bother us anymore. On the way back, we passed a few villagers starting their morning and heard the sound of someone preparing breakfast. By the time we returned to the homestay, the whole village seemed to be waking up. It was a simple morning, but it became one of my favorite memories from Ghandruk. No crowded tour, no schedule—just a quiet walk, a warm cup of tea, and the mountains slowly coming to life.

नेपालमै धेरै ठाउँ घुमेको भए पनि कागबेनी पुगेपछि छुट्टै अनुभूति भयो। फोटोमा जति राम्रो देखिन्थ्यो, वास्तविकमा त्योभन्दा पनि धेरै सुन्दर रहेछ। ढुंगाले बनेका साँघुरा गल्लीहरू, शान्त वातावरण, कालीगण्डकीको किनार र वरिपरिका पहाडहरूले मन एकदमै लोभ्यायो। त्यहाँ पुगेपछि हतार गर्ने मन नै भएन, बस त्यही वातावरणलाई महसुस गर्दै समय बिताउन मन लागिरह्यो। बिहान सबेरै उठेर गाउँ वरिपरि हिँड्दा हिमालमाथि बिस्तारै घाम लाग्दै गएको दृश्य साँच्चै अविस्मरणीय थियो। स्थानीय दाइ–दिदीहरूको आत्मीय व्यवहार, तातो चियासँग गफगाफ, र गाउँको सरल जीवनशैलीले यो यात्रा अझ विशेष बनाइदियो। पर्यटकको रूपमा होइन, आफ्नै गाउँ आएको जस्तो अपनत्व महसुस भयो। यदि मुस्ताङ जाने योजना बनाउँदै हुनुहुन्छ भने कागबेनीलाई केवल बाटोमा पर्ने एउटा ठाउँ भनेर नहेर्नुहोस्। कम्तीमा एक रात त्यहाँ बस्नुहोस्, गाउँका गल्लीहरूमा बिस्तारै घुम्नुहोस्, नदी किनारमा केही समय शान्त भएर बस्नुहोस् र बेलुकीको खुला आकाश हेर्नुहोस्। प्रकृति, संस्कृति र शान्त वातावरण एकै ठाउँमा अनुभव गर्न चाहनुहुन्छ भने कागबेनी अवश्य घुम्न लायक ठाउँ हो। म फेरि पनि त्यहाँ जाने योजना बनाइरहेको छु।
